Ozymandias

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read,
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed,
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

-Percy Bysshe Shelley
1792-1822

This weekend, sometime, I'll be 50 years old.

The Northern Gold Coast calls. If Al Gore's right, I'd best see it again before the rush starts.

Don't make any bad choices in the mean time!

50 huh? Tell me what it's like, mine comes this September... It's not the growing old I mind, it's thinking of all the wasted time & missed opportunities, the fact that so little of what I do this days is fun or even interesting anymore.
& thanx for blogging.

Thanks, oyster, you just keep up the good work too!

Anon @ 2:12, what can I say? There are those that would drain us of all we have, at any age. You can not take people or situations like that seriously. You have to deal with them sometimes- I do,anyway, but there are many moments in a day when you can breathe your own air.

All I can suggest is:
If we live, let us live!

Think of it as stealing the One Ring from the Hand of Sauron.
Find a person to love.
Find something new to learn.
Practice music, or your arts, or anything that gives you pleasure, and don't worry what others think.
Find a puppy to resue, or a world to save, or a sword in a stone somewhere.

Every moment you live is precious. Find a reason to make it so. Even if you get in a little trouble in the process. What, you want to live forever like a good consumer?

Finally, thank you, Woody!
